WhatsApp’s New Feature: Email Verification for iOS Users

WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform, is rolling out a significant update for its iOS users. This update introduces a new feature that allows users to link their email addresses to their WhatsApp accounts for account verification. This information comes from Webetainfo, a reliable source for updates about WhatsApp.

WhatsApp, has introduced a new update, version 23.24.70, on the App Store. This update is particularly noteworthy as it introduces the much-anticipated email address verification feature for iOS users.

The new feature is a shift from the traditional SMS-based verification method. It enables users to authenticate their WhatsApp accounts using email verification. This can be particularly useful in situations where users have access to Wi-Fi, during the lack of cellular connectivity. For instance, if a user is traveling abroad and doesn’t have a local SIM card, they can still verify their account using an email address.

Initially, this feature was made available to WhatsApp beta users for testing and feedback. After successful testing and positive feedback, WhatsApp has decided to roll out this feature to all its users worldwide.

As of now, the feature has not been received on both iOS and Android platforms. However, reports suggest that a phased rollout is in progress.

In the past, WhatsApp relied exclusively on phone numbers and One-Time Passwords (OTPs) sent via SMS for user verification. This method, while effective in many cases, posed challenges in regions with poor or inconsistent cellular network coverage. Users in these areas often faced difficulties in receiving OTPs, leading to issues with account verification.

This feature can be enabled or disabled as per the user’s preference, offering greater flexibility and control over account security.

WhatsApp assures its users that this new feature is designed with privacy and security in mind. The linked email address is used solely for account verification and is not visible to other users.

Users can easily enable this feature by navigating to the ‘Settings’ option in the app, then selecting ‘Account’, followed by ‘Email Address’. Once enabled, users will receive a 6-digit verification code via email instead of SMS. This method ensures that users can verify their accounts even in the absence of cellular network coverage, as long as they have access to their email accounts.

It’s important to note that the rollout of this feature is being done in phases. Therefore, if some users do not see this feature in their account settings yet, there’s no need to worry. WhatsApp assures that the feature will be made available to all users in the coming weeks. This phased approach allows WhatsApp to ensure a smooth and seamless introduction of the new feature to its vast user base.

Meta, is currently in the process of experimenting with the integration of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot into the Beta version of WhatsApp for Android devices. This innovative feature is manifested as a fresh icon, strategically positioned above the existing ‘New Chat’ icon within the application’s user interface.

The primary objective of this integration is to provide users with seamless and direct access to Meta’s AI capabilities right from their chat window.
