3 Toronto movie theatres playing Hindi films attacked, evacuated

Earlier this week, a disturbing incident occurred in the Greater Toronto Area of Canada. Audiences at three different movie theaters were abruptly evacuated mid-screening.

Masked individuals had entered the theaters and released an unidentified substance into the air. Some moviegoers required treatment following exposure to it. The local police, alongside other relevant authorities, are currently investigating these unsettling events.

On Tuesday, a disconcerting event took place at a cinema complex in Vaughan, a city located in the York Region of Canada. The incident occurred at approximately 9:20 pm, as per a statement released by the York Regional Police on Wednesday.

Numerous moviegoers started coughing after two men in masks and hoods sprayed an “unknown, aerosol-based, irritating substance into the air” in a theatre, police said.

Several individuals present at the scene required medical attention due to exposure to the unidentified substance. The local police authorities confirmed this, adding that the theater had to be promptly evacuated to ensure the safety of all attendees.

The police have released descriptions of the two individuals believed to be involved in the incident. The first suspect is described as a man of African descent with a lighter skin complexion. The second individual is characterized as having a brown skin tone. Both suspects remain at large and the authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in their apprehension. The investigation is ongoing and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

According to a report by CBC News, the York Regional Police are actively collaborating with their counterparts from the Peel and Toronto police departments. This cooperative effort is in response to a series of incidents bearing striking similarities that have occurred across these jurisdictions. The authorities are pooling their resources and sharing information in a bid to piece together the events and identify any potential links.

“Coincidentally, they took place all within less than three hours on the same evening,” a York Police officer said. “So we are certainly looking into the possibility these incidents are linked.”

The Peel Police Department has confirmed that they responded to an incident at a movie theatre located in Brampton. The call was made on Tuesday, following reports of an unknown substance being dispersed within the premises.

The Toronto Police Department has also reported a similar incident that occurred on Tuesday night. They received a call regarding an individual who had allegedly activated a “stink bomb” within a movie theatre located at the Scarborough Town Centre.
